Suggestion re: jumpstarting this page

Hi Mr. Lessig, you might want to ask Jimmy Wales to convince some experienced Wikipedians to help you jumpstart this page. I've also made some changes that I discussed on Talk:Anti-Lessig Reader. If there's anything else I can do to help out don't hesitate to drop me a line, you can use the "E-mail this user" feature found in the MediaWiki toolbox on the left. spam

I removed the spam on that page. Most of the content is on 4 subpages MatrixCombined/CRO, MatrixCombined/CRW, MatrixCombined/SRO, and MatrixCombined/SRW. I might have gone a little overboard with the complexity, but I didn't want people to have to update in both places, and editing within a table is tricky for many people. You might try looking at mediawiki's anti-spam filter. That page has an example that you can just paste in to your LocalSettings.php file. I added email to my account here also if you ever need help with anything. I see you have another experienced wikipedian here also :) - cohesion 17:27, 12 June 2007 (PDT)

Dear Lawrence Lessig,

I saw your interview on Democracy_Now!, Worldlink, today.

A telephone-number on this website plays "You have reached a number that is not in service; please check the number, & dial again." Are we permitted to converse w/ you? I do want to ask some internet questions,.....

On one of these pages you mention "communism". When I was a child, my school seemed to have made it clear that it is better to be nuclear fallout, rather than communist,.....

So, how is it that we've sold our treasury to the Saud klan, & communist China? &, then, our banks, a couple of years later, same sort of deal? In my childhood, that had been called, uh, uh, communist satellite, no, no, no, no, not that one, sputnik is a different sort of satellite. Are we now on a communist plantation? What about all of that during the twentieth century, is communism now good? So confused.

And, I do need to ask this someplace, about last night's Philadelphia debate:

My impression: Hillary Clinton speaks, they show us Chelsea Clinton. Barack Obama speaks, they show us Chelsea Clinton. Repetitively. And, various other persons in the studio, were lit blue. Was the American Broadcast Conglomerate the blue network? Is it a purple city? Is it a blue party?

I did need to say that. I do want to ask some internet questions, of you; but, I hope that you would permit telephone calls. Please?

Thank You,

Spam

The mediawiki software (or possibly an updated version if this is an older version) has a function that allows you to add a simple CAPTCHA test to cut down on spam. It doesn't remove all spam but it will drastically cut down on it. JoshuaZ 19:37, 19 August 2008 (PDT)

LessigWiki uses SpamFerret, a spam filter which I wrote and maintain. LW only gets a handful of spam every month now; according to the log, SpamFerret has blocked 102 spam attempts so far this month. It does need to fall back to a CAPTCHA when it can't contact the database, and that's a project I'll get to eventually. --Woozle 10:40, 20 August 2008 (PDT)
I created Category:Spam and Template:Spam to mark pages as spam if SpamFerret misses them to make it easy for administrators to delete things in the future. --Joshuagay 19:07, 27 October 2011 (EDT)

Amendment copyediting

I've tried to proofread at Talk:The28th#Proofreading_attempt, mostly by moving prepositional phrases to eliminate commas, simplifying language, and deleting redundancies. I've tried to keep the meaning as completely identical as I can as a layman. I've italicized the parts that I don't really understand (it turns out those parts are the three words beginning with "non-".) Please let me know what you think with a reply on User_talk:James_Salsman when you have the chance. James Salsman 06:17, 27 December 2011 (EST)

Public campaign finance without a constitutional amendment

Please see the detailed discussion on Wikipedia's Humanities Reference Desk. James Salsman 12:50, 19 January 2012 (EST)

Here's the proposed statement, initially directed at media organizations

"Public campaign finance is the only way to get lobbying money out of Congress and restore its integrity. Congresspeople have to spend 85% of their time fundraising, up from 70% before Citizens United v. FEC because the candidate spending the most money wins 94% of the time. So please ask your CEO, [publisher,] and board to support appropriating e.g. $10 million campaign funds to the top two contenders six months before federal elections. The resulting campaign advertisements will directly benefit your company and indirectly benefit everyone."
